UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Utah Lake Authority is offering a monetary prize of $1,000 to the person who catches the most carp from Utah Lake to try to get carp overpopulation under control. “When I first started here on the docks, you would look down at the water and you really couldn’t see more than a quarter of an inch down,” Melanie Evans, sailing instructor for Bonneville School of Sailing said. For eight years, Melanie Evans has been sailing the lake.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — Overworked, understaffed, and underpaid rural working nurses in Utah are burnt out. Unfortunately, this is a reality for some nurses across rural Utah; a reality Melissa Hinton knows all too well. “Being a nurse in a rural area, you get whatever comes in the door,” Hinton said. The University of Utah says that 11 of 29 of Utah’s counties are considered rural, and, in these areas, nursing shortages are becoming the norm. “It is affecting our healthcare,” Hinton said.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Secretary Kennedy announced that pregnant women and healthy children will no longer be recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine — a decision that’s raising concern among some Utah health officials. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared the announcement Tuesday on his X account. “The COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC recommended immunization schedule,” Kennedy said.
