BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) - Michigan authorities say a middle school student’s sudden death is under investigation. According to officials with Bay City Public Schools, the 14-year-old student died Tuesday afternoon shortly after getting off his bus. In a letter, Superintendent Rick Seebeck said the Handy Middle School student was on a sidewalk, and the bus was near MacGregor Elementary School. Bay City Public Safety Sgt.

OXFORD, England. (WNEM) - Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is on the other side of the pond discussing his jail’s IGNITE program which helps inmates gain skills and education in the hopes that they are successful and don’t reoffend once released. Swanson was asked to present at Oxford University for the World Literacy Summit from April 6-9.

FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) - Flint has lost a longtime community leader. According to his son, Floyd Clack died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children. Clack served many roles throughout the years including as the president of the Flint branch of the NAACP, Flint city councilman, Michigan state representative and Genesee County commissioner. Clack championed education, civic engagement and social justice causes. Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said he was more than a public servant.

Instead of tossing them, efforts to reuse them have improved. Up to a quarter of scrap tires are processed into ground rubber that is then used for floor mats, playgrounds, and even potholes. Scientists in Michigan believe the best solution to patching the pavement might’ve been right under us the whole time.
