    SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Rain showers from Wednesday’s cold front have been making a very slow exit early this Thursday morning. By mid-morning once all of the rain leaves, the rest of today actually holds some very pleasant weather conditions! The caveat is still the smoke though. More near-surface smoke is returning behind the rain, continuing this stretch of diminished air quality. Michigan EGLE has declared an Air Quality Alert for parts of our area today.

    EAST LANSING, Mich. (WNEM) - Back on May 1, Michigan State announced they were searching for a new athletic director. Today, just over a month later, the Spartans officially introduced J Batt as the 21st AD in MSU history. He comes from Georgia Tech where he served as the vice president and director of athletics. Previous to being with the Yellow Jackets, Batt oversaw the implementation and launch of the Crimson Standard for Alabama athletics, a ten-year 600 million dollar capital initiative.

    SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is sounding the alarm on potential cuts to the federal food assistance program. SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, serves 1.5 million people in Michigan. Lawmakers in Washington are considering legislation that calls for $300 billion in cuts to SNAP. Whitmer said cuts would take away food benefits from families who need it most, increasing hunger across Michigan in small towns, big cities, and everywhere in between.
