SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Rain showers from Wednesday’s cold front have been making a very slow exit early this Thursday morning. By mid-morning once all of the rain leaves, the rest of today actually holds some very pleasant weather conditions! The caveat is still the smoke though. More near-surface smoke is returning behind the rain, continuing this stretch of diminished air quality. Michigan EGLE has declared an Air Quality Alert for parts of our area today.

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is sounding the alarm on potential cuts to the federal food assistance program. SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, serves 1.5 million people in Michigan. Lawmakers in Washington are considering legislation that calls for $300 billion in cuts to SNAP. Whitmer said cuts would take away food benefits from families who need it most, increasing hunger across Michigan in small towns, big cities, and everywhere in between.
