Nate Selin, a health officer for the Central Utah Health Department, said that while bats typically avoid human contact, you should never handle them directly. GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, Utah (KUTV) — Visitors were advised to exercise caution after a fire started on Navajo Mountain, about five miles from Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Recreation Area. As of Wednesday, the Bridge Creek Fire had burned approximately 800 acres on Navajo Nation lands. PANGUITCH, Utah (KUTV) — The France Canyon Fire, burning in Garfield County for just over a week, has reached nearly 7,000 acres. On Tuesday, crews dropped approximately 62,000 gallons of water and 100,000 gallons of fire retardant; however, as of Wednesday, the fire remained 0% contained.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A Springville police sergeant who accessed the Utah Criminal Justice Information System over and over again — even soliciting a sheriff’s deputy for personal use, violating state law — was never prosecuted like many law enforcement officers have been for breaking the law, a 2News Investigation found. Springville Police Chief Lance Haight appears to have shielded Sgt. Larry Teuscher from being criminally charged.

PANGUITCH, Utah (KUTV) — The France Canyon Fire, burning near Bryce Woodlands, has nearly quintupled in size since it was first reported. As of Tuesday, the fire had burned 4,704 acres with 0% containment. Air support, a single-engine air tanker, large tankers, and bucket support worked along the southwest flank of the fire, where it continues to burn in "very dry and receptive fuels," the U.S. Forest Service said.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A Mexican national allegedly living in the U.S. illegally pleaded guilty to drug, firearm, and immigration crimes. Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, 25, a Mexican native and citizen living in Draper, was charged on May 20 with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, alien in possession of a firearm, eluding examination or inspection by immigration officers, and failure to resgister, the U.S. Attorney's Office District of Utah said. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday.
