PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Aroostook County Tourism hosted the 2025 Aroostook County Tourism Summit today. During the summit, officials with the Maine Office of Tourism shared data on what they’ve seen for tourism in 2023 to 2024, and locals shared their goals and challenges ahead. “For the state of Maine, we have about 15 million visitors and about $9.2 billion overall in spending, and about 150,000 jobs are supported by tourism to Maine.

Officials at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. have coordinated with Luke Dyer, the town manager of Van Buren, and Michelle Bernier, the town manager of St. Agatha, to have Georgetown University students recreate the towns’ brands.

Grant money is helping keep Cross Lake’s ecosystem healthy, and the folks and wildlife who view the lake as home are happy. Cross Lake is 2,470 acres of home to fish, wildlife, and people.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - A Historical plane made a pit stop at the Presque Isle International Airport yesterday. The Ready 4 Duty C-47 was on the ground for about two hours, fueling up before it could continue its journey to Europe for a special event on May 8th.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The younger crowd was also getting in on the Earth Day activities at the Children’s Museum. Museum officials had some special guests come in to teach the kiddos about agriculture so they will be able to start off this summer right, while outdoors. “I came to plant a couple of flowers and some green beans. I learned that they need sunshine, water, and soil,” says Beckett Blackstone participant at the Earth Day event.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Damage left behind by Sunday’s windstorm continues to create work for the Maine DOT. While driving through the county, you may have seen a number of town signs displaced and fallen trees at the sides of the roads. Northern Regional Manager Bob Watson says Sundays windstorm did cause some damage and that town and city signs are next to fix.

CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) - There were four fires over the weekend. The Caribou Fire department responded to brush fires in Caribou, Connor, New Sweden, and Woodland. The largest fire was in connor and covered five acres of land by the Van Buren rd. A couple of those fires were caused from trees falling on telephone poles creating down wires and sparks. The other two fires are still under investigation. Presque Isle fire department aided Caribou crews and the fires were all extinguished that day.
