PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -A Madawaska Middle Schooler has been taking his game to another level. Incoming eighth grader Quinn Pelletier of Madawaska spent the winter and spring traveling all over the East Coast with the Maine Select 2029 team. ”I feel it has helped me get more physical and learn to play better in High School,” said Quinn Pelletier. Pelletier is the only County player on the Maine Select 2029 team.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Throughout the summer we report on the scores from the Upper St John Valley Senior Mens Golf Association. Rene Cloukey has more on the group that has been in existence for over 50 years. This is a typical sight at different courses every other Wednesday during the summer months. Golfers from around the County and Western New Brunswick getting ready for a day of golf and laughter.

CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) - Pony League baseball in the Central Arosotook County area is growing. This year there are seven teams competing in the league. The Pony League is a great feeder system for success in High School. The majority of the players on the Caribou High School team honed their skills in the summer playing for the Caribou Recreation Department teams.

WOODSTOCK, New Brunswick (WAGM) - Harness racing fans in Woodstock spent part of Canada Day afternoon at Connell Park for seven dashes of harness racing. Woodstock is the only track in New Brunswick and they will be hosting 11 cards of Harness racing over the next two months. This is the third race on the card and Emporer with Shawn McClellan in the bike picking up the win. The track conditions were excellent and there were some very fast times.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - A familiar face on the University of Maine Presque isle campus has been named the new Assistant Athletic Director and Women’s Basketball Coach. Mark Knight who spent the past seven years as Assistant Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director takes over the women’s program from Gavin Kane who stepped down earlier this month. (Mark Knight):” I am really excited, like you said Gavin Kane did an amazing job building the program.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The State Champion Fort Kent Warriors Tennis team continues to celebrate the first State tennis title. The team returned to the St John Valley late last night and today it was still sinking in that they are State Champions.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Three County athletes are State Track Champions. Houlton/GHCA Junior Teanne Ewings won both the 1600 and 3200 meter Class C championships. Cassidy Carlisle of Presque Isle won the Class B State Racwalk title and Fort Fairfield Sophomore Ethan Walsh won the Class C High Jump title. All three say their performances were a highlight of their year. (Teanne Ewiings):” I was focused on that. I went into the meet determined.

CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) - The Caribou Vikings girls tennis team is the only undefeated team in Class B. The Vikings head into the playoffs as the top seed and Coach John Habeeb says he is proud of his team’s success during the regular season. He feels the Vikings are ready for the playoffs because they played several very tough teams on the regular season. John Habeeb:” This year we have a really solid team. Our doubles are shaping up really well.

VAN BUREN, Maine (WAGM) - President Jimmy Carter was in office when Steve Lapierre began his soccer coaching career back in 1979 and LaPierre has coached through eight different presidencies. One of the deans of soccer coaching is hanging up the cleats and retiring from the soccer sidelines. Steve Lapierre:”When I started coaching we were a bigger Class B School. We have had a declining enrollment over the years. The kids continue to work hard, you just have less numbers to choose from.
