    Pitlochry was the place to gather on the misty afternoon of Monday, January 1 to dance away the effects of the night before. The Pitlochry New Year Street Party brought thousands together from all over the UK. Local MC Eddie Rose took the mic and Silly McB the clown gave children a giggle while the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band marched through their home town, filling the streets with the sound of the pipes.

    The wee town of Aberfeldy in Perthshire punched well above its weight this year with its biggest and best New Year’s Eve celebrations yet and a young piper made his triumphant Hogmanay debut. About 1500 revellers gathered in The Square from 8.30pm for an evening of good music and great company, all to be rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display. The influx of visitors the event attracts each year is a welcome boost to the local economy.

    A restaurant in Scone is hoping to begin to rebuild this month after over a year closed following water bringing down the ceiling. In December 2022, La Sicilyana suffered a catastrophic flood with a burst mains water pipe flooding the empty flat above the bistro, leading to ankle-deep water in the restaurant dining room.

    A Perth restaurant has shown outstanding generosity by inviting 600 people to enjoy its food on Christmas Day for free. Tabla Indian Restaurant in South Street won Best Asian Restaurant (Tayside) 2023 at the Asian Restaurant Awards and Best Indian Takeaway (Central) at the 2023 Spice Awards, so the family-run kitchen has no trouble finding customers.

    A Perth bank branch continued its generous link to the charity Perthshire Women’s Aid when it donated a sleighful of Christmas presents. The TSB in St John Street has once again reached out to help PWA’s Wishing Tree Appeal. Staff worked hard to amass the presents which last week were donated to Perthshire Women’s Aid.
