Three-quarters of children killed on Queensland roads in the past 20 years were not properly restrained, according to the state's family and child commission. One in four of the 123 children who died in road crashes in the state between 2004 and 2023 were not restrained at all — even by an adult seatbelt. The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) said Australia's child restraint laws lagged behind other countries.

Severe storms have produced heavy rainfall in south-east Queensland, with Brisbane recording more than 80 millimetres in two hours. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said 181 millimetres of rain was recorded in the Brisbane suburb of Rosalie, 175mm in Mt Coot-tha, 162mm in Brisbane, and 154mm at Toowong. A severe weather warning for heavy rain remains in place for parts of Ipswich, Logan, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay.

A US man connected to religious extremists who killed three people in Queensland's Western Downs last year is seeking to have charges against him dismissed. Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold, and neighbour Alan Dare, were killed on December 12, 2022 in what police have described as a religiously-motivated terrorist attack committed by Stacey, Gareth and Nathaniel Train.
