Queensland's health minister says Monash IVF is being monitored after the wrong embryo was transferred to a patient at a Brisbane clinic. The national fertility provider discovered the mistake in February this year after the birth parents asked to transfer their remaining frozen embryos to another provider. The ABC understands the baby, who has no genetic link to the woman who gave birth to them, was conceived in early 2023.

The father of a man who was struck by a projectile allegedly fired from a moving vehicle says it narrowly missed his spine and lungs. The 20-year-old man was walking with friends on Logan Road at Underwood, south of Brisbane, when they were allegedly fired at shortly after midnight on Sunday. The projectile penetrated the man's lower chest and is still in his body, his father Shibly Mustapha said. He will have to have a second surgery to remove it after a first attempt failed.

Police say there's no evidence an attack on a Muslim man wearing "religious attire" south of Brisbane was racially motivated. The 20-year-old was hit in his upper back by a "projectile" fired from a passing vehicle shortly after midnight on Sunday at Underwood in Logan. On Tuesday, police said they were "open to any lines of investigation" but had found no evidence so far that the man had been targeted for his faith or race.

Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski will step down immediately after being diagnosed with cancer. Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy will take on the role from Saturday. In a statement, Commissioner Gollschewski requested privacy, adding he "appreciates the support of his colleagues and the community". Premier David Crisafulli said the commissioner had the "full support" of his government.
