Georgians face peak pollen season, with allergies causing discomfort for many as tree pollen levels reach their annual highest. ATLANTA — Watery eyes? Sneezing? Itchiness? Runny nose? Chances are you're one of 25% of adults with seasonal allergies. And this time of year, that means it's a lot of Georgians. We're in the 'peak' of pollen season. To put it bluntly, trees pollinate so that they can reproduce sexually. Yes, it's tree sex.

The peak of pollen season is here, with pollen counts in the 'extremely high' range likely again later this week ATLANTA — After a warm, breezy Sunday, the pollen count in Atlanta was measured at 3,028 grains per cubic meter, the highest so far this year. Pine, Oak, Birch, Hackberry, and Sweet Gum were the highest tree pollen contributors. Atlanta Allergy & Asthma counts the pollen year-round each weekday. During the peak of pollen season, they also do pollen counts on the weekends.

North Georgia braces for a Freeze Warning as temperatures dip below freezing Friday morning. ATLANTA — Spring officially began Thursday morning. And now, for Friday morning, an early Spring Freeze is heading to parts of north Georgia. There is a Freeze Warning for Northwest Georgia, where temperatures are most likely to drop to or below the freezing mark, and a Frost Advisory in the city of Atlanta and south. Both will go into effect at 2 a.m. and will last until 10 a.m. Friday.

ATLANTA — The Vernal Equinox is at 5:01 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, marking the start of Astronomical Spring. This happens when the sun's rays are directly over the equator. The root of the word "equinox" is "equal," which generally means about equal day and equal night (roughly 12 hours) over the equator, Tropical of Capricorn, and Tropic of Cancer. But in reality, it isn't exactly 12 hours everywhere. In Atlanta, we'll have 12 hours and 9 minutes of daylight on Thursday.

ATLANTA — Monday morning's commute was dark and wet across the Atlanta area. After "Springing Forward," sunrise times are now an hour later. Instead of a sunrise before 7 a.m., like last week, Atlanta's sunrise time this work week is just a few minutes before 8 a.m. Fortunately, March is a month when we gain a significant amount of daylight here in Atlanta.
