The World, public radio’s longest-running daily global news program, is now airing on a record 376 public radio stations across the United States and in Canada, more than at any point in the program’s history. The show, produced by GBH and PRX in Boston, is heard by more than 2 million people nationwide on a weekly basis. Its secret sauce, says Executive Producer Dan Lothian, is “human-centered” journalism.

The MBTA will shut down the Green Line extension branch between Lechmere and Union Square from Sept. 18 to Oct. 13. The Squires Bridge over the MBTA tracks in Somerville — which carries 40,000 vehicles a day — needs repairs. In order to do the job, the T has to suspend service on those tracks. The Squires Bridge repairs were supposed to be completed earlier this summer, but local officials balked at the lack of adequate warning.

When Marsha Bemko was offered a job at ANTIQUES ROADSHOW 24 years ago, she almost turned it down. “I was afraid that I wouldn’t like it,” she said. “I was working on documentary films at GBH, and I didn’t think of myself as a reality television kind of person.”To her delight—and ours—she is exactly that kind of person. Her first road trip as senior producer was to Austin, Tex., and she immediately fell in love with the program. Four years later, and 20 years ago, she became executive producer.

Paris Alston is the co-host of Morning Edition and “The Wake Up” podcast at GBH News. She reflects more on her ancestry nowadays, looking up to her grandmothers for guidance and inspiration as she seeks for opportunities that were unavailable to them.
