An air conditioning company citing concerns about tariffs and the economy is refusing to honor a contract with The Villages. The Sumter Landing Community Development District and/or The Villages Operating Co. have had a contract dating back to 2020 with M&S Air Conditioning of Leesburg.

An apparent lighting strike destroyed a home Saturday evening in The Villages. A brutal storm with heavy lightning, thunder and hail moved through The Villages at about 6 p.m. and a bolt appears to have struck a home at 1893 Lancaster Lane in the Village of Winifred. Multiple units from The Villages Public Safety Department battled the blaze, which had tall flames shooting from the structure and creating billowing smoke visible from a distance.

There’s a new plot twist in an intrusive fiber installation project in The Villages. The Lumen/Quantum Fiber project that began last year is now owned by AT&T. It was announced this week that AT&T has acquired the Lumen fiber business for $5.75 billion. An AT&T public relations specialist confirmed for Villages-News.com that the purchase includes the fiber networks already installed or being installed in The Villages.

A Villager sporting a black eye has been jailed without bond after violating a court order. Lucia Anna Brown, 50, was booked Tuesday at the Sumter County Detention Center on a charge of contempt of court. The Illinois native was taken into custody at the Sumter County Courthouse in Bushnell. Her mugshot taken at the jail clearly shows she had suffered a black eye.

A homeowner in The Villages already facing more than $20,000 in unpaid deed compliance fines may have a fresh deed compliance violation. Henry Mabry, 83, is already being sued by the Community Development District 5 Board of Supervisors over unpaid fines and legal fees tied to his home at 1762 Rosebury Loop in the Village of Winifred. His fines total $20,942 and legal fees stand at $7,892. The problem property had been brought into compliance in 2022, though the fines remain unpaid.
