Problems with ponds in The Villages have forced the District Government to go in search of a new contractor to perform maintenance. Many ponds have been plagued with algae and hydrilla. In 2023, The Villages’ government inked a deal with a new contractor, Crosscreek Environmental, for pond maintenance after a dispute over pricing with the previous vendor. However, there has been some dissatisfaction with Crosscreek Environmental.

Beneficiaries of a dead Villager’s trust are offering no timeline for cleaning up his long-vacant home. The problem property at 587 Little River Path in the Village of Mallory Square was the subject of a public hearing Friday before the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors at SeaBreeze Recreation Center. A Villager has blamed his deed compliance problems on medical and financial hardship. The home of the Jack Kondor at 1734 Lisette Way in the Village of Mallory Square was the subject of a deed compliance hearing Friday before the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors at SeaBreeze Recreation Center. A complaint was received by Community Standards on Feb. 14 regarding overgrown grass, weeds and overgrown trees.

A house in The Villages was no insured when a blaze claimed a woman’s life. Brigette Brown Fleetwood died as a result of the house fire which broke out Dec. 23 at 2328 Due West Drive in the Village of Lynnhaven. The Villages Public Safety Department quickly rescued Fleetwood from the burning home, but she had been critically injured and was transported to a local hospital where she died. Fleetwood had been the romantic partner of Lloyd Rohlig, who lived in the home with her.

A Community Watch training officer has been appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors. Randall Edgar of the Village of Caroline was selected Friday morning from a field of five applicants for the vacant seat previously held by longtime Supervisor Peter Moeller, who resigned. Edgar has been living in The Villages for 14 years. The former Pennsylvanian previously worked as a police officer.
