Following a highly successful 17th edition of the festival this October, which attracted visitors from Hanoi to Illinois, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tallinn, Australia and, of course all over Sheffield, Sensoria organisers are already planning for next year.

The singer and guitarist will be part of the festival’s SensoriaPro event, a unique gathering of artists, open to all, exploring the latest developments in music and creative media.

    Raro Video, a company specializing in Italian cinema, graces us with what they’re calling Star Pilot, actually Pietro Francisci’s 1966 space opera 2 + 5 Missione Hydra. Their eye-popping 4K transfer is now on a Blu-ray distributed by Kino Lorber for our edification. Be warned, however: Star Pilot is nobody’s lost masterpiece. The package calls it “kitschy”, which implies bad taste.

    In one sense, we live in a golden age of television sitcom history. We can buy remastered DVDs of most of the famous and long-running shows in handsome box sets. A few that haven’t made it to box nirvana, like The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, can be found in good shape on certain channels like Me TV and Antenna TV. Many shows can never be properly gathered because they were broadcast live and exist only as scattered kinescopes.

    Donna Summer is rightly considered the Queen of Disco, but Sylvester is a contender for the title. Like Summer, Sylvester brought artistry, a church-fueled power, and enthusiasm to dance music, injecting a spiritual passion to the dancefloor. His voice – an otherworldly sonic boom of a voice that climbed to dizzying heights – was a significant force in queer pop culture in the 1970s.
