Based in Apache Junction, but serving all of the Phoenix metro area, their mission is to provide hope and faith-based resolution to those in need and also provide high level catering to all. They offer catering, hot meal services for the homeless, and a summer Culinary Arts school.

Day 30: Hot Springs to Little Paint Creek Trail (13.1 miles)Today was a day where most of my attention was focused inward, and primarily on my feet. Some days are all about the views and the scenes and the miles. I did take the time to visit a fire tower and enjoy the views, but for the most part this was not one of those days. The insoles on my shoes were getting old and tired, and when I pulled them out they were like a pieces of cardboard completely pounded flat.

Day 26: Standing Bear Farm to Roaring Fork Shelter (15.5 miles)There is a general feeling as you exit the Smokies that terrain will now be a bit easier, I am capable of bigger miles, etc. This tends to occur because you run through all the food in your bag, so your bag is as light as it can be, and the exit to the smokies is mostly a gradual downhill. My last day coming out of the smokies I hiked 19.3 miles.

Day 20: Fontana Dam Shelter to Russell Field Shelter (15.1 miles)This is an exciting portion of the trail to do. I decided mid-pandemic that I was going to thru hike the Appalachian Trail, and was pretty sure 2023 was the year. In May of 2021 I gathered the gear I thought I would need and proceeded to field test it in Great Smokey Mountain National Park.

Day 18: NOC to Sassafras Gap Shelter (7.1 miles)White water at the NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center) was excellent. The water was frigid cold, around 40°, but the day warmed up to around 80° and overcast, so conditions were pretty good. Chris and I rented a ducky which is a two person kayak shaped raft, a and took a two hour ride down the river with class two and three rapids. Perfect for a beginner.
