A federal court hearing is set to address the case of a Tufts University doctoral student from Turkey who was detained by immigration authorities Rumeysa Ozturk, 30, was grabbed by mased, plainclothes immigration officials as she walked along a street in Somerville on March 25. She was removed from the state and remains in a detention center in Louisiana. The Justice Department has said there was no available space to detain her in New England.

Spotting a dog struggling to stay afloat in a icy Vermont river, Chris MacRitchie never hesitated. He jumped into the frigid waters and waded over to the dog, gently pulling it ashore, where his wife draped it with a sweatshirt. The dramatic rescue Friday afternoon in Berlin was caught on video by his son and was shared widely on social media. MacRitchie's son first spotted the dog as they were going through the drive-thru of a nearby Dunkin' Donuts.

Kennedy who raised their 11 children after he was assassinated and remained dedicated to social causes and the family’s legacy for decades thereafter, died on Thursday, her family said. She was 96. Kennedy had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke in her sleep on Oct. 3, her family said.

Karen Read is seeking to delay a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of her Boston police officer boyfriend until her criminal trial in connection with his death is done. The lawsuit filed last month blames the death of John O’Keefe on Read, and also on what it describes as negligence by bars that continued to serve drinks to her despite signs she was drunk. It says the first bar served her seven alcoholic drinks in about 90 minutes the night of Jan.
