Oakland Township will enter into a deal with another local municipality regarding police services. By a vote of 2 to 1, Township Supervisors approved a cooperation agreement through the end of this year for part-time police services with Saxonburg Borough. The details of this agreement have not yet been worked out and this does not replace the State Police. Residents will not see a tax increase to pay for this agreement as the Township plans to seek out grants.

PennDOT is announcing a roadway width reduction as part of the Freedom Road expansion project in Cranberry Township. Effective Monday, Freedom Road will be reduced to a width of 11 feet between Powell Road and Haine School Road. Vehicles over 11 feet wide must use other routes as crews will be placing temporary barriers for traffic control until Halloween.

Cranberry Township Police recently honored two officers for their role in an incident involving a suspicious person last summer. Last July 2nd, police identified an active threat in the area of Glen Eden, Freshcorn, Powell, and Unionville Roads and a shelter in place order was issued. 37-year-old Logan Cumberland of Ellwood City was eventually shot and killed in a wooded area along Freshcorn Road.

With only a month left before federal Real ID enforcement begins, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is offering local residents another opportunity to obtain this documentation. A Real ID Days event is planned to take place tomorrow (Monday) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Butler Driver License Center at the Point Plaza. Residents are asked to bring the necessary documents to be verified and imaged. The Real ID will then be sent by mail within 15 business days.
