During this Memorial Day, a state agency is encouraging donations to a program to provide upkeep for the largest veterans’ memorial located in any of the national cemeteries. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is asking for donations to the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Trust Fund which maintains the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial, located at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Lebanon County.

With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of summer, many people will be breaking out the grill. However, fire officials are reminding users to be safe when preparing summertime food. Fire departments respond to an average of over 9,000 fires each year involving gas grills resulting in over 20,000 injuries annually. They remind grillers to check propane tanks for any leaks, keep the grill clean by removing grease or fat, and to make sure the grill is far away from any home or deck railings.

These activities include drainage work along Gamesland Road in Donegal Township along with patching on Whitestown Road in Butler Township. Shoulder cutting is planned for Eau Claire Road in Venango Township, as well as West Sunbury Road in Venango, Marion, and Cherry Townships.
