Downtown Boise’s fine dining scene is heating up. A massive, empty restaurant space soon will be occupied again — by an upscale Northwest steakhouse veteran. El Gaucho, a regional chain, plans to open at 610 W. Idaho St. in late 2025. It will take over more than 10,000 square feet vacated last October by House of Western. Specializing in steak, seafood and cocktails, El Gaucho operates locations in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and Vancouver, Washington; and Portland.

Boise has plenty of mouthwatering local pizza — whether it’s takeout from Americana, a New York-style slice from Guido’s or a sit-down feast at The Wylder. But a growing chain from a master pizza chef plans to make its own gourmet mark in the area — beginning in Meridian. Slice House by Tony Gemignani has leased a 2,558-square-foot spot at 1582 W. Orchard Park Drive. There’s no target date for opening yet, but possibly late 2025, according to the chain.
