Allegheny County Police said the incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lafayette Bar & Hotel along South Main Street. Police said the man is expected to survive.     Organizers of a fitness-themed fundraiser in Fox Chapel celebrated a milestone supporting Riding for the Handicapped of Western Pennsylvania. The McCandless-based nonprofit is a therapeutic horseback riding program that has helped children and young adults with disabilities for decades. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded exclusively by donations, fundraising and grants.

    Dozens of Fox Chapel Area families braved the elements to support the school district’s Community Safety, Health & Wellness Event. The annual collaboration of school resource officers, local emergency responders and nonprofits took place in the Aspinwall municipal parking lot on April 26. Things got off to a rainy and windy start that morning, but things eased off into the afternoon. Some attendees believe the Pirate Parrot brought the sun.

    Jennifer Begg knows there are families who may be without food after strong storms last week left people without power for days. She understands firsthand the impact of not having a working fridge or freezer. She and her team at the Sharpsburg-based St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry had to throw away a lot of frozen meats and dairy products after not having power for at least 48 hours. The food pantry is in the basement of the church with an entryway from nearby Altmeyer Way.
