Court documents obtained by NewsChannel 13 paint a disturbing picture of the murder of a Schenectady woman allegedly at the hands of an ex-partner. Police responded to the scene just before 8 p.m. Jaikaran was treated on scene and later died at Ellis Hospital. White also allegedly cut Jaikaran’s sister in the arm, when she was trying to stop White from stabbing Jaikaran, court documents said.

The man accused of committing deed fraud to steal a Schoharie County man’s home has been indicted on grand larceny charges. Joseph Goodnough allegedly knocked on the door of David White in Cobleskill and asked to buy his house. White eventually agreed and signed tax transfer papers. White was eventually served an eviction notice and told to get out of his house. A Schenectady County grand jury handed up the indictment on Thursday. The alleged crime was committed in Schenectady.

The village of Menands is seeking to dissolve its justice court and have the town of Colonie take over court cases. Menands Mayor Brian Marsh tells NewsChannel 13 that the village is spending around $200,000 per year to fund the court, and it does not bring in nearly the revenue to offset that. “The loss became a question of is this providing a service to our residents, or are we subsidizing justice for the Capital Region?” he said.

Self-proclaimed anti-violence activist Dontie Mitchell was sentenced on Monday to 15 years in prison for carrying a gun to the scene of a deadly shooting. This came after Mitchell, who was representing himself, went on a lengthy monologue when given the chance to speak. He claimed “hypocrisy” by the prosecutors by cutting “sweet deals with murderous gang bangers” to convict him. Mitchell stood trial for his role in a Cohoes shooting in August 2023.

The Niskayuna Town Board has voted to fire its administrator of information technology for misconduct and incompetence. The board on Tuesday voted 4-0 to terminate Seth Goldstein at the recommendation of hearing officer John Trela, who oversaw the disciplinary proceedings. At issue was the fact that the town’s incoming and outgoing phone calls were being recorded for almost two years, without the town’s knowledge or authorization.

The limo company operator involved in the deadly Schoharie crash that killed 20 people is appealing his conviction to the state’s highest court. Nauman Hussain’s attorney has filed a motion asking that the state Court of Appeals hear the case. Hussain was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for allowing the Ford Excursion stretch limousine to remain on the road, even though the brakes needed to be redone, and the vehicle was not properly inspected.

A Petersburgh town justice has resigned from the bench after he admitted that he told prosecutors that he couldn’t be impartial in order to get out of jury duty. The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct last week accepted the resignation of Richard Snyder effective Dec. 31, 2024. Snyder has been a town justice since 2014. At issue were comments he made during a summons in Rensselaer County on Oct. 18, 2023 for grand jury duty.

A Colonie man is accused of trying to hire someone to kill a man and then dump his body at a farm to be eaten by hogs. Prosecutors say Jeal Sutherland was talking to someone to discuss a murder-for-hire. The person was actually a confidential source that was tipping off law enforcement. The source told investigators that Sutherland in November had asked him to set fire to a vehicle belonging to the mother of the intended target, who was in prison.

Luigi Canessa was being represented by Lee Kindlon. However, Kindlon was elected Albany County District Attorney earlier this month. Kindlon said in a letter to U.S. District Court Judge Christian Hummel that communication between he and his client has broken down and become irreparable and he asked for new counsel a few times. “Mr. Canessa and I have become wildly divergent in our opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of his case.”The judge scheduled a hearing for Dec. 3 to discuss the issue.
