ALBANY — The state Department of Motor Vehicles is warning New Yorkers that texts claiming to be from the DMV and threatening enforcement action for an unpaid traffic ticket are phony and part of a new phishing ploy. The best move is to delete the text and not reply to it or place the web address into a browser as ordered, DMV spokesman Walt McClure said . Replying to the message could snare a New Yorker in an illegal phishing scam that seeks to extract credit card numbers and other personal data.

ALBANY — Many New Yorkers are paying more for checkups, sick visits and outpatient procedures at their longtime family doctor’s office and might not even know it. ALBANY — A little-noticed but lifesaving provision in the state budget passed earlier this month will provide a tax credit worth up to $10,000 to help defray the costs of New Yorkers who donate some of the most needed organs in hope of saving or prolonging others’ lives. The measure is intended to improve the chances of New Yorkers receiving transplants of all or part of livers, pancreases, kidneys, intestines, lungs and bone marrow. Currently, nearly 8,000 New Yorkers are in need of transplants.

ALBANY — Two years ago a 4-year-old boy in Florida was eating a hamburger hot off the grill when he was jabbed by a sharp pain in his ear that confounded doctors for 10 days. The surprising source of the pain in cases like that nationwide have helped lead to a proposed ban in New York State on metal wire brushes widely used to clean grills because loosened bristles can break into food, creating injuries that sometimes require surgery.
