Police are investigating a serious crash and hit-and-run that happened Thursday morning on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard. Police cleared the scene of the hit-and-run investigation just before 5 a.m.The crash happened around 3:30 a.m., after a driver ran a red light, hitting a car with two people inside. The driver who hit the car crashed into the trees then fled the scene. The two people inside the car that was hit were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crews battled heavy smoke and flames at a historic building in downtown Raleigh near Shaw University early Tuesday morning. Fire crews worked to contain the fire at the former Lightner Funeral Home on Person Street – an important piece of Raleigh's Black History. A graduate of Shaw University, C. E. Lightner established the funeral home in 1911. One of the oldest funeral homes in Raleigh, it served the city's Black population during the era of segregation.
