HELIX, Ore.-The Helix School District is running on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, Dec. 11, due to the weather. Icy road conditions in Northern Oregon prompted the delay and all morning classes will now start at 10:30 a.m.According to the Helix SD, there will be no zero period classes and breakfast will not be served. All buses schedules will run two hours later than normal.

YAKIMA, Wash.-Washington State University's newest variety of apple now has an official name. WSU apple breeder Kate Evans announced that the state's newest apple will officially be called Sunflare at the Northwest Horticulture Expo in Yakima on Dec. 10. Sunflare was chosen from 15,000 responses submitted during a public contest to name the new apple known as WA 64 until a name was picked.

YAKIMA, Wash.-Fire crews are on scene of a large commercial structure fire that is impacting traffic on S. 1st Street in Yakima. Yakima police and firefighters responded to the fire at a tire storage facility on the 2000 block of S. 1st Street around 6:30 a.m.Traffic is now blocked on S. 1st Street north from Washington Avenue and south from Mead Avenue, according to a YPD social media post. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.

UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore.-Two Pendleton men were killed in a commercial vehicle versus pedestrian crash on I-84 on Dec. 8. Oregon State Police responded to the crash near milepost 210 in Umatilla County around 10 a.m.According to the OSP, a Volvo commercial vehicle and trailer, driven by a 59-year-old Vancouver, Washington man, left the slow lane and hit a guardrail and the two pedestrians before crashing and rolling down an embankment.

YAKIMA, Wash.-Due to an increase in respiratory illnesses in the region, MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital is requesting that all visitors and patients wear masks. In addition to masking, the hospital recommends everyone be up-to-date on COVID, RSV and flu vaccinations to reduce the spread of illness and protect patients and staff at hospitals and clinics. The masking request will be in effect until further notice, according to a statement from MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital.
