But defensive miscues doomed the Patriots. MAU committed three costly errors, all of which led to unearned runs, as the Hilltoppers capitalized and claimed a 9-7 victory to win their first state title since 2016.

SHELBURNE — Burr and Burton came up just short in its quest for its first girls tennis title since 2014, falling 5-2 to top-seeded Mount Mansfield in Thursday’s Division II state championship match at Davis Park. The Cougars – led by individual champion Bea Molson — captured their third consecutive D-II crown, winning three of five singles matches and sweeping doubles play. For Bulldogs coach Lisa Kelly, the match marked the end of a memorable return season.
