Hy-Vee is shuttering two fresh food production facilities, and moving that food production back to stores, affecting 461 positions at the facilities. Hy-Vee is “committed to assisting all impacted employees during this transition and is organizing hiring events to place as many employees at Hy-Vee stores as possible to best serve customers,” the West Des Moines-based grocer said in an announcement today. Operations will end at the facilities on June 24.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has awarded 33 Choose Iowa value-added grants totaling $463,000 to Iowa farmers and small businesses located in 28 counties. Five Central Iowa producers received grants: Bochner Farms in Indianola, Iowa Orchard in Urbandale, Honey Hollow Apiary and Gardens in Indianola, Rose Farm in Norwalk, and V&B Farms in Ames.

At a April 14 meeting of the Des Moines Area Community College board of directors, President Rob Denson and board chair Joe Pugel honored retiring board secretary Carolyn Farlow celebrating her 20 years of service to the college. Farlow, who began her DMACC career in 2005, held leadership roles as director of institutional effectiveness and director of strategic planning before retiring from those positions in 2022. She continued to serve as board secretary until her full retirement last week.
