KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews have begun work on expanding the US-131 interchange with US-131 Business Route near Kalamazoo. The Michigan Department of Transportation said the $19 million project will add new ramps from northbound US-131 to US-131 BR and from US-131 BR to southbound US-131. Both ramps will need a new bridge. There will be single-lane closures on US-131 and US-131 BR. However, both highways will remain open to both directions of traffic for most of the project.

ALBION, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say one man was killed and a teenager was arrested after a shooting in Albion. The Albion Department of Public Safety said it was called around 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a report of a shooting at an apartment on Hillside Road near the intersection of Erie Street and Finley Drive. When officers arrived, police said they found a 27-year-old Lansing man inside an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. An 18-year-old Albion man was arrested at the scene.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The man who killed a woman by running her over in a Walmart parking lot in 2022 was sentenced. On Wednesday, Xuan Thanh Vo, of Kalamazoo, was sentenced to life without parole in the murder of 65-year-old Sandra Villarreal in August of 2022. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said Vo “intentionally” hit Villarreal with his sedan in an Oshtemo Township Walmart parking lot on Aug. 9, 2022. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
