CNN CNN  —  Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has proposed a prisoner exchange with Venezuela, offering to repatriate hundreds of Venezuelans who were deported from the United States in exchange for “political prisoners.” In a post on X, Bukele offered to exchange 252 Venezuelans currently detained in El Salvador’s mega prison for “an identical number (252) of the thousands of political prisoners” he says Venezuela holds, including family members of opposition leaders.

Peru’s former First Lady Nadine Heredia has fled to Brazil, where she has been granted diplomatic asylum after a court in her home country sentenced her and her husband, former President Ollanta Humala, to 15 years in prison on money laundering charges. She landed in the capital Brasilia with her son on Wednesday, her lawyer Julio Espinoza told CNN. According to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, she had requested asylum at the Brazilian Embassy in Lima on Tuesday morning.

(CNN) — Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa wants foreign armies to help crack down on gang violence in the country. In an interview with the BBC published Tuesday night, Noboa said he wants US, European and Brazilian armies to join his “war” on gangs, telling the broadcaster that his country needs more armed forces to fight against criminal groups. (CNN) — Canada’s Toronto Pearson Airport said it is aware of an incident involving a Delta Air Lines plane that was arriving from Minneapolis. “Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for,” the airport said in a statement on X. Footage from CNN newsgathering partner CTV shows an overturned plane on a runway at Toronto Pearson Airport. Airport staff told CTV News that all arrivals and departures at Pearson were shut down.
