CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - More than a dozen cars were broken into at a northeast Charlotte apartment complex Wednesday morning, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. A police report showed the criminals got away with cash and one handgun. While reporting on the crime, WBTV noticed it appeared the thieves targeted only rear windows on the vehicles.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) - A Kannapolis family is pleading for answers in the murder case of a man killed inside a home on Christmas Eve last year. Kannapolis Police said 26-year-old Angelo Markantonakis was shot and killed inside a home on Windy Rush Drive, just before noon on Dec. 24, 2024. Investigators believe three men were responsible, but no arrests have been made. Markantonakis’ parents, Susan and Angelo, have been left without an understanding of why the crime happened, since that day.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Travelers who don’t have a REAL ID or a passport by the May 7 deadline will still be allowed to fly with additional security screenings, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. The Associated Press reported Noem made the remarks Tuesday to a congressional panel. As the deadline loomed at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, flyers were relieved to hear the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) would extend some grace Wednesday, at least in the short-term.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Statewide data shows fentanyl deaths among North Carolina children younger than nine have risen noticeably over the last several years. At least five adults in the WBTV viewing area have been charged with murder within the last two years because children died of fentanyl toxicity. WBTV analyzed data from annual reports from the North Carolina Division of Public Health and the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (NCOCME).

Three years ago, doctors diagnosed John Bramlett’s wife, Beth, with Stage 4 melanoma.
