WAXHAW, N.C. (WBTV) - Wearing pink to honor the life of 22-year-old Logan Federico, more than 200 family and friends gathered in Waxhaw Thursday to remember the aspiring teacher’s life. Logan Federico, was killed during a home invasion May 3, while visiting friends in Columbia, S.C., according to police. “Logan didn’t just exist. She lived boldly, embracing life’s adventures with open and enthusiastic arms,” her uncle, Ed Federico said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) - A North Carolina woman whose cellphone was stolen at a Charlotte-area bar in March has tracked it all the way to a city 8,000 miles away in China. Marin Blake is one of dozens of victims who claim their phones were pickpocketed at a cluster of bars in the South End over the last year. Charlotte police’s crime map shows authorities have taken nearly 40 reports of theft from the area since December 2024.

LENOIR, N.C. (WBTV) - A 1-year-old girl died after a medical episode at a Caldwell County daycare facility on Monday and now police are trying to determine if it could have been prevented, Lenoir police said. The 16-month-old child was found unresponsive at Creative Beginnings of Lenoir. Police suspect she died of cardiac arrest, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department found a man shot to death Wednesday night after responding to the victim’s home for a welfare check Thursday night, investigators said. Jerry Forney, 67, was found inside his house on Briargrove Drive, with at least one gunshot wound, a police report showed. Forney’s family had called police to check on him after they hadn’t hear from Forney for a few days.
