LIVERMORE, CA — Forget San Diego - ComicCon is back in Livermore. The free comic convention is returning Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bankhead Theater. The annual Livermore Valley Arts event will showcase comic artists of all genres, including graphic novels, manga, crime/noir, sci-fi, horror, fantasy, slice of life, adventure, humor, and romance.

PLEASANTON, CA — Several lanes will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-580 from the I-680/580 overcrossing to the I-580/SR 238 overcrossing in Castro Valley, Caltrans announced. Several lanes will be closed on the eastbound side from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the westbound side from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The closures will take place Monday through Friday nights. Caltrans did not provide an approximate end date.

DUBLIN, CA β Sales of legal "Safe and Sane" fireworks will begin in Dublin on Saturday, June 28, and last through Saturday, July 5. In California, "safe and sane" is an official designation for fireworks that approved by the State Fire Marshal, labeled with the official "Safe and Sane" State Fire Marshal seal, sold only in cities and counties that allow them, and do not explode, fly, or shoot into the air. Sales are limited to approved nonprofit organizations in approved locations.

SAN RAMON, CA — Two Dougherty Valley High School students won the Contra Costa Youth Shark Tank competition, beating out over 300 competitors across the county. Aditi Ranjan and Sravya Namburu won a $2000 prize for their app PennyPal, which uses AI to teach financial literacy to kids and teens. "[PennyPal] was born out of a passion for empowering the next generation with essential financial knowledge," Ranjan told Patch in an email.

DUBLIN, CA — Local performers are encouraged to apply to perform at Splatter, Dublin's annual multicultural festival scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13. The city is seeking solo acts and group performers in comedy, dance, and cultural showcases to perform at the Side Yard Stage. Anyone interested must submit a performance video to [email protected] by July 31 to be considered. The Splatter festival will take place from 12-8:30 p.m. at Emerald Glen Park.
