In late August my sister and I took a road trip to Les Éboulements, in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, where our father’s family spent their summer holidays in the ’30s and ’40s. As kids, “Lazy Boom-ah” was known to us in stories and photos, a mythical place, much loved, much remembered when my dad and his sisters got together. In recent years, in groups of two and three, we’ve been making our way back there, tracing our dad’s footsteps.

Edges is a new solo exhibit by watercolour artist Lauren Waters, which will run throughout October at the Yukon Artists at Work gallery. The exhibit explores the meaning and purpose of edges, in all their various forms. “The inspiration comes from one of the main techniques I use to create loose,atmospheric watercolour paintings,” Waters told What’s Up Yukon.

When the Guild Hall pivots from one show to the next, there’s often quite a bit of overlap. As artistic director Brian Fidler told What’s Up Yukon, auditions for the next theatre show will be held when its current one is still running, meaning that the team behind the productions needs to be well-organized and to work efficiently.

Summer has rapidly turned into fall and it’s only a matter of time before the first snowflakes drift down to cover the golden leaves on the ground. It’s always a bittersweet time of year. Summer has been good to us this year, and even though we can’t complain that we didn’t get enough warm days, it’s still hard to let go.
