An exploration drill by ExxonMobil offshore Cyprus has failed to find commercial quantities of natural gas, the island's energy ministry said on Monday. Drilling operations had been completed at the Elektra-1 well in Block 5 of the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, it said. "Well data and preliminary evaluation work indicate the presence of natural gas in non-commercial quantities," the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry said.

A museum has opened in Cyprus showcasing priceless early Christian artworks, many of which were recovered after being stolen from churches in the north of the war-split island. The Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation opened on March 18 in the capital Nicosia after five years of extensive renovations. It features mosaics, icons and wall frescoes representing some of early Christianity's finest and rarest works.
