This year the Pride Winnipeg Festival theme is “Rise in Pride, Stand in Strength.”But a new logo featuring a rainbow phoenix rising from flames, which was made using AI, has some Winnipeggers infuriated. “It does really seem like a betrayal that they would then turn to AI, especially in the queer community, which is just full of a proliferation of very talented artists,” said Sam Beiko, the artistic director for Prairie Comics Festival.

Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer is spreading the word about how easily someone can get measles and why getting vaccinated against the disease is so important. Dr. Brent Roussin has sent a letter to all school divisions, independent schools, and licensed child-care centres in the province about the recent measles outbreak. The update dated May 8, 2025, is addressed to parents/guardians, staff and volunteers.

Whiteout Street Party tickets are some of the hottest tickets in town. The party for Game 5 between the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars went on sale Monday and sold out in minutes. Those who missed out on being able to purchase have been left to scour online marketplaces or third-party websites. But some Jets fans have been struggling to find legit tickets. Keri McGraw is one of those people. She has yet to score tickets to the event. “Very sad. I want to experience it once in my life,” she said.

More eyes, ears and helping hands are hitting the street in Osborne Village. At The Happy Cooker, owner Mark Bartling said knives have always been kept under lock and key, and staff are trained to handle their sale carefully. “As retailers, we’re not trained in any kind of area with regard to de-escalation or recognizing any kind of addiction,” Bartling said. “That’s not our job, but our job is to remain calm.”Soon, street teams with that type of training will be patrolling the popular area.
