In less than a week, Fort Whyte Alive will welcome nature lovers into a brand-new visitor centre and debut a second, more accessible entrance. Liz Wilson, president and CEO of Fort Whyte Alive, says the centre’s grand opening is set for noon on April 23. Up until now, the certified zero-carbon centre has been called Buffalo Crossing.

A slew of charges has been laid against six people, including a prison inmate, who police believe were trafficking drugs and illegal cigarettes from British Columbia to Manitoba. Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) investigators said in a release issued Wednesday that the Guns and Gangs Unit started looking into the case in December 2024. Police allege there was evidence drugs were being shipped from B.C. to Winnipeg, and several places and people were involved.

Sweeping changes are coming to Winnipeg’s transit system this summer as the city switches to a new model. Along with the mass rerouting of buses in June, there will no longer be chartered city buses coming to take kids home from school. The city said the new network would mean those chartered buses aren’t needed, but one parent said they are concerned about their daughter taking public transit to school next year.
