This week — five years after the shutdown — also marks Long COVID Awareness Week, an effort to raise the profile for people suffering from a virus that many people would prefer to forget. The symptoms of Long COVID linger and can include everything from brain fog to debilitating fatigue.

IT’S AN ONGOING EMERGENCY IN NEW BEDFORD, 76 PEOPLE DIED FROM OPIOID RELATED OVERDOSES HERE IN 2023, A NUMBER THAT’S BEEN PAINFULLY CONSISTENT A DEATH TOLL THAT MAKES NEW BEDFORD ONE OF THE HARDEST HIT COMMUNITIES IN THE STATE. IT’S BEEN DEVASTATING. IT REALLY HAS.

New National Transportation Safety Board preliminary findings about a Green Line collision last month in Somerville are raising more questions about why the MBTA still has not installed a system that can prevent collisions. The NTSB first recommended the T install a Green Line Train Protection System after a 2008 collision between two Green Line trains.

Use it or lose it. That's the message from one state lawmaker to cities and towns across the state over their sitting on more than $80 million in money given to them to fight opioid addiction. "You've had more than ample time to do this. Get this money out the door. People are dying," said state Sen. John Velis, D-Westfield.
