Alabama political candidates are one month into fundraising for next year’s election, when voters will choose a new governor, U.S. senator, attorney general, lieutenant governor, and secretary of state. Candidates for state offices have been legally allowed to raise money since May 19, which was exactly one year before the primary. It’s too early to learn much about the fundraising in most races, and there is still plenty of time for candidates to get in or drop out.

Hearings to help determine what companies can dispense medical marijuana in Alabama will be a step forward for the state’s long-delayed program, a lawyer involved in the process said Wednesday. Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission General Counsel Justin Aday said legal challenges remain but that the AMCC could resolve a key issue by finally issuing licenses to dispensaries.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt has endorsed her Senate colleague Tommy Tuberville for governor. “From strengthening K-12 education and modernizing workforce development to growing good-paying jobs and investing in local infrastructure, we share the mission of putting Alabama First,” Britt said in a statement released by Tuberville’s campaign. Tuberville ended months of speculation in May when he announced he would run for governor instead of reelection to the Senate.
