Mike ChapmanSpecial to the Record SearchlightProtesters hit the sidewalks in Redding again Thursday, this time for a rally to spare Medicare and Medicaid from cuts by the Trump administration. About 40 demonstrators showed up at the busy intersection of East and Tehama streets for the noontime protest. The location was next to Shasta Regional Medical Center in keeping with the rally’s health-care theme.

Redding on Saturday joined the nationwide Hands Off! protests, bringing out the biggest demonstration the community has seen so far this year from people who are upset and resisting President Trump and his presidential adviser Elon Musk's cost-slashing actions. The Redding rally in front of City Hall on Cypress Hall brought out 1,200 protesters. It is at least the sixth anti-Trump demonstration in the city.

Two restaurant partners named their Redding taquería Los Dos Amigos for good reason. Miguel Rizo and Jesus “Chuy” Reynoso have been friends for more than 25 years, ever since they were kindergarten classmates in the small Mexican town of San Jose de Gracia, about 300 miles northwest of Mexico City. Lucky for lovers of Mexican food, they also brought their flavorful family recipes with them when they opened in 2022.

Los Dos Amigos Taquería in Redding is owned by Miguel Rizo and Jesus “Chuy” Reynoso, two childhood friends who use family recipes. The restaurant prides itself on fresh, homemade food, with everything made from scratch.
