Redding Rancheria was denied a state grant for a proposed $95 million, 30-bed detox facility. The rancheria is considering reapplying for grant funding. The Redding Rancheria did not receive a California grant it hoped would jump start Shasta County's first residential drug and alcohol detox center equipped with medical staff and able to administer medication-assisted therapy to people who are addicted to opioids or alcohol.

The pilot program aimed to diversify juries by increasing compensation. California's budget shortfall led to the pilot program's cancellation. Reimbursement for being a juror in a Shasta County just soured a bit. Nine months after daily jury reimbursement was boosted to $100 starting on the second day of service, reimbursement sunk back to the longstanding $15 a day because a pilot program that had hoped to attract more people to jury service by increasing their pay was scrapped.
