From its humble origins as a wad of cash ($500 each, to be exact) that passed from Dave Castro’s hand to James “OPT” Fitzgerald and Jolie Gentry in 2007, the CrossFit Games prize purse has grown significantly to around $3.3 million in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The top prize for the Fittest Man and Fittest Woman on Earth was $315,000 in these seasons. Over the past 14 years, the prize purse has been supported by title sponsors like Reebok and NOBULL.

For the last two seasons, the CrossFit Games team has released a Worldwide Ranking (WWR) based on its own scoring system. The last update to the WWR was on June 5, 2024, shortly after the conclusion of the Semifinals. Along with the last top 100 women and men that the CrossFit Games team released in the early summer, they also released a points matrix for the Semifinals and for the CrossFit Games. With additional writing by Joe Genetin-Pilawa. The first week of the 2024 CrossFit Games Semifinals kicked off in Décines-Charpieu, France, at the LDLC Arena. Seven thousand spectators watched live, while tens of thousands more tuned in on the CrossFit Games YouTube channel. In the middle of all the action, a series of events involving athlete Rebecka Vitesson has again placed the topic of injuries in CrossFit competition under the microscope.

Days until the 2024 CrossFit Open: -14!Days until the 2024 CrossFit Quarterfinals: 34Do you remember that day? I remember mine. I started CrossFit in my garage, as many people may have, in 2020 after my local YMCA shut down. I picked up random workouts to do from Instagram. By the end of 2020, I signed up for Mayhem Athlete programming, had watched all the Games documentaries and Behind the Scenes, and was excited for my first Open.
