KeyBank Center will be the host of one of the four games of the 2025 Rivalry Series between the national women's hockey teams of the United States and Canada, the Buffalo Sabres announced Monday. Team USA and Team Canada will play Game 2 of the series here on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Game 1 will be on November 6 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. Games 3 and 4 will be at Canadian sites to be announced.

At the behest of the league's general managers, the NHL opted to stay home for its annual amateur draft June 27-28 and stage it remotely, like it did for two years during the Covid-19 pandemic. Most teams are simply going to hunker down in their offices at their practice facilities or arenas for the week, just like they do during training camp or at the trade deadline.

When the news came down Friday that the Sabres have hired Jarmo Kekalainen to be their senior advisor for hockey operations, it seemed like the entire fan base jumped to what it perceived as the next step. Perhaps Kekalainen one day will become the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres. Perhaps that day could, in fact, be very soon if things start poorly in the 2025-26 campaign.

Williamsville's Andrew Poturalski, who was the AHL's most valuable player this season after winning his third career scoring title in the league, has been released from his contract for next season by the San Jose Sharks to pursue an opportunity outside North America. The team honored Poturalski's request but did not specify where he is headed. Multiple reports in California have said for weeks he was going to Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.
