CHICAGO - Luis Arraez had four hits, Fernando Tatis Jr. scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning when first baseman Justin Turner couldn't make the catch to finish a double play, and the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 8-7 on Sunday. The Padres' Gavin Sheets singled off Porter Hodge to tie it in the eighth. Jackson Merrill homered for the Padres, who had lost two straight after opening the season with seven consecutive victories for the best start in franchise history.

Three area teams are ranked in the state's Prep Baseball Report Power 25, which ranks squads regardless of division. Those are Westosha Central (No. 5), Indian Trail (No. 13) and St. Joseph (No. 16). Both the Falcons and Lancers advanced to state last season and are poised for another run, while the Hawks are ready to take the next step after reaching a Division 1 sectional final a year ago.

Martial arts probably saved the life of Paris native Ben Rothwell, 43, when asked why he loves fighting. From troubled beginnings, he has transformed his life into immense success, especially during the last year. In November, the mixed-martial arts (MMA) fighter started moving his gym from Kenosha to his hometown of Paris, right off the I-94, where he bought an old antique mall, formerly Dairyland Antiques off Highway 158 and I-94 in Paris, and turned it into a large, two-story new gym.
