Wednesday afternoon update: We had some showers and storms move through this morning, but things have cleared out this afternoon. Temperatures are running above where they were yesterday with highs in the low to mid 80s. Looks like we might see a few isolated showers and storms popping up again this evening. While widespread severe weather isn’t on the menu, there’s a chance one or two of these storms could pack a bit more punch, possibly bringing some small hail or gusty winds.

Sunday night update: Keep those umbrellas handy! We’re still seeing plenty of widespread rain moving through the area. It’s coming from an upper level low to our west, and it’s bringing some serious moisture with it. While the big severe storm threat has lessened, the primary concern for tonight is heavy rain and potential localized flooding. Some spots have already seen significant downpours, and more are on the way. Don’t be surprised if you see some ponding on roads or in low-lying areas.

Saturday morning update: Happy Mother’s Day weekend, everyone! It’s shaping up to be a cool, cloudy, and increasingly rainy Saturday for the CSRA. A large upper-level low remains anchored over Louisiana, and it’s steering Gulf moisture directly into our area. At the same time, a wedge of cool, dry air from the northeast is keeping us stuck under thick cloud cover and reinforcing a chilly airmass. With that setup, high temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 60s.

Friday evening update: Expect a better chance of showers, possibly with some embedded thunderstorms, pushing into our region overnight from the south. The winds will also remain a bit elevated behind the front, keeping things from cooling down too much, with lows expected to be in the upper 50s to near 60. Saturday is shaping up to be a cool, cloudy, and increasingly rainy day for the CSRA. The upper-level flow is shifting, with a cut-off low developing to our west.

Thursday evening update: We’re expecting a round of stronger showers and thunderstorms to move through the area during the overnight hours. Satellite imagery shows clouds hanging around, and storms are developing both to our south and north. With temperatures in the 80s and that sticky, humid air, the atmosphere is primed for more thunderstorm development. There’s a good bit of energy in the atmosphere, which won’t decrease much overnight.
