Knox City Council members reviewed the proposed annual contract with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation (SCEDF) during their meeting last week. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said the contract is up for renewal in 2025. It was noted that SCEDF had been without an executive director for several months during the 2024 contract. Last month, Mikie Stogsdill was announced as the new executive director for SCEDF and has begun work in her new capacity.

The Knox Board of Public Works discussed purchasing a new slide gate for the wastewater treatment facility during their meeting Wednesday. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok informed WKVI News there have been some safety concerns at the wastewater treatment facility. He stated the facility is a restricted area and there is not a proper gate to keep pedestrians away from entering.

The City of Knox has officially closed the Wythogan Park Splash Pad for the season. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok updated the Knox City Council during their meeting last week about the closing. He stated the city will begin winterizing the splash pad this week. He added, he hopes everyone that used the splash pad enjoyed themselves this summer. The Knox City Council discussed adopting the 2025 budget during their meeting Tuesday. According to the notice on the Indiana Gateway website, the total budget estimate is $4,655,169 with just over $2.7 million in the General Fund, $50,000 in Local Road and Street, $478,000 in the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund, $181,000 in the Park and Recreation Fund, and other special funds as well. The council held a public hearing on the proposed 2025 budget during their previous meeting with no comment made.

The Knox City Council announced who will be leasing the second pop-up store during their meeting Tuesday. As previously reported, the Redevelopment Commission (RDC) does not make the decision on who the city would choose. City of Knox Mayor Dennis Estok had previously stated a selection committee was formed to collectively make the decision on which business would be the best fit for the second pop-up store location at 6 North Main Street.
