Surprisingly let go from one of the nation's most renowned high school football programs, former Mater Dei coach Frank McManus had some more eye-opening news on Wednesday. He's the new coach at Northern California power Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa. McManus, a 16-year assistant at the Southern California powerhouse, replaced legendary coach Bruce Rollinson in 2023 as head coach and led the Monarchs (13-1) not only to a state Open Division title, but a mythical national crown as well.

One of the nation's most coveted junior basketball players is transferring between Southern California schools. Tajh Ariza, a 6-foot-9 junior small foward and five-star recruit, will play next season at St. John Bosco, which already blessed with its own top recruit in Brandon McCoy.

The California HIgh School softball season is past the midway point. The Top 25 preseason list looks a lot different than today. parity rules the state. That's true particularly in two of the state's strongest leagues, the Trinity League in the Southern Section and the Central Section Tri-River Athletic Conference. A handful of teams in those two leagues are sitting right outside the Top 25. Some statistical information gathered from MaxPreps and Gamechanger.
