In 40 square miles, Metro’s South Central Area Command holds over 200 apartment complexes and 300,000 people, according to Captain Landon Reyes. It also holds a shopping center on the northeast corner, which saw two shootings within just over two weeks between late April and Mid-May.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Advocates are warning of a looming deadline in their efforts to protect the plans to relocate dozens of families living in a sinking neighborhood. Nearly 100 families are slated to move out of the Windsor Park neighborhood in North Las Vegas. Their homes are slowly sinking into the ground because the land is shifting underneath them.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Valley saw another dog dumped outside the Nevada SPCA while the shelter was closed. On Tuesday at about 6 p.m., security video shows two people leaving an English bulldog in a crate at the shelter’s door. Nevada SPCA Associate Director, Ebone Smith, said the dog sat unattended for nearly four hours before a passerby took it. She said it’s not clear if the dog had any food or water.

Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse says, the summer months are the busiest for the Coroner’s Office, and there are steps they take to ensure they’re prepared for an increased caseload. Rouse says other areas with colder climates may see their busy seasons over the winter, but for the Las Vegas Valley, the busiest time of year for the Coroner’s Office is between May and September.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A rush to make a flight could cost a driver thousands. A Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a driver Tuesday morning near Blue Diamond and the I-15 who was traveling over 104 miles per hour in a construction zone, with a posted speed limit of 55. “He was late, he was trying to get back to California to make a flight to return home to his home state and that was it,” Trooper Kevin Vostinar said.
