With local elections just around the corner, find out some key information ahead of the voting day. The elections will be taking place in Cambridgeshire on Thursday, May 1. If you are unable to get to a polling station, you can nominate someone to cast your vote for you – a proxy. You will need to have applied to vote by proxy by 5pm on Wednesday. More information on how to apply is available on your district council’s website, and you can find out more on the Electoral Commission website.

Police executed a drugs warrant earlier this week. Fenland neighbourhood officers paid a visit to Chatteris, following information about drug dealing in the area. No arrests were made, but weapons and class C drugs were seized. Police issued a drug warrant in Chatteris. Picture: Policing FenlandA spokesperson for the police said investigations are ongoing.

A murder investigation continues after a man was attacked at Whitemoor Prison in March on Sunday. Police were called at about 4.10pm following the discovery of the body of John Mansfield, 63, formerly from Manchester. He was pronounced dead at the prison at 4.27pm. A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in prison custody and under investigation.
