Police are being made aware of a concern over drugs raised at the latest Chatteris Town Council meeting. On Tuesday evening, Cllr Matthew Siggee brought up concerns of drug dealing going on in the town. Public service students recently travelled to Belgium for a powerful and educational visit to several key First World War sites. The trip for College of West Anglia students, which took place earlier this spring, included visits to the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Tyne Cot Cemetery – the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world – and the Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke, as part of their ongoing studies into military history and international conflict.

The new mayor and deputy for Chatteris have been chosen at the town council’s latest meeting. At Tuesday evening’s meeting, Cllr Linda Ashley was selected to take on the role of mayor with Cllr Sharon Selman acting as deputy. This comes after councillors nominated who they wanted to replace the current mayor, Cllr Anne Hay, and her consort Cllr Ian Benney, who have served for the last two years. The pair received the majority of the votes and have started their new positions.
