A 20-year-old man accused of shooting a rifle at four friends at least six times in 10 minutes at a property in Coree has been granted bail. The court heard no one was injured, but the men allegedly had to hide from Ryan Richard Izzard, who police say they later caught attempting to flee on a quad bike. Mr Izzard's case will return to the ACT Magistrates Court in February.

A teenager who had lost her internet privileges and a university student seeking an assignment extension were among "inappropriate" triple-0 calls made in Canberra last year. The calls have prompted police to urge the public to consider whether they're in a real emergency before picking up the phone. ACT Policing received 39,097 calls to triple-0 in 2024, and 14,066, or 36 per cent, were non-emergency calls.

Marina Assogna woke up earlier this week to the sound of what she thought was rain. But when she turned her front light on, she discovered it wasn't rain drops hitting her window, but a swarm of beetles. "I got up to get a glass of water and I thought 'oh yes, it's raining'. I went to open the door and that's when I saw all the bugs flying around," she said. Ms Assogna has lived in Canberra her whole life, but said she had never seen anything like it.
