The Queensland government recently revoked approval for two affordable housing developments in the region, while a third is under review. The state government says it is building affordable homes in conjunction with community housing providers, and by working with local councils. Police are responding to reports of shots fired on the Bruce Highway about two hours north of Brisbane. Emergency services were called to Coles Creek, near Gympie, just after 12:15 pm. No injuries have been reported at this stage. An earlier emergency declaration has been revoked, and police have said there is no threat to the public. The Bruce Highway has now reopened. Loading

A man has been charged after allegedly secretly filming about 40 people, including children as young as nine, inside their homes on Queensland's Sunshine Coast over several years. Alex Francis Hammond, 32, was refused bail in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday after police alleged he posed a "chronic risk of harm to the community".

Queensland police regularly target beaches in the Noosa region as part of "Operation Sandstorm". Over the Easter and Labour Day long weekends, they issued more than 270 fines to drivers who were allegedly not wearing seatbelts, were speeding or were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police warn the consequences of driving dangerously on beaches can be "catastrophic" as it is easy to roll vehicles.
