A Sunshine Coast-based snake catcher was called for assistance to relocate a red-bellied black snake on a resident's property. By the time the crew arrived, the snake was dead. They say it had been chopped in half. The incident has been reported to the Queensland Environment Department, which confirmed to the ABC it is investigating, and wasn't able to provide further comment.

    A Queensland man involved in an illegal wildlife smuggling ring has been convicted in a Sunshine Coast court. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) said Sunshine Coast man Jesse Sayeg, 33, first came to the attention of authorities after Victorian Australian Border Force officers intercepted a package from the Philippines in March 2023. The package had been declared as toys but officers had noticed a smell coming off it.

    Family and friends of Norma Dutton and Clive Millers have been left reeling after their deaths earlier this week. Police have charged their carer, 61-year-old Stuart Gray, with two counts of manslaughter, alleging he deliberately drove into a tree with the couple as passengers. Mr Gray will appear before Gympie Magistrates Court later this week while police investigations are continuing.

    Simon Barra Yaite is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Many of the women were alone and exercising in the dark when Mr Barra Yaite allegedly groped them and, in some instances, filmed it. Mr Barra Yaite's case will be mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 9.

    A former Queensland surfing coach has pleaded guilty to a raft of child sex charges he committed against eight young victims over a three-year period. Connor John Christopher Lyons, 26, appeared in a Sunshine Coast court on Thursday where he sat quietly as a list of charges was read. They included indecent treatment of children under 16 and making child exploitation videos.
