A Northamptonshire mother has said her son’s two-and-a-half-year wait for an autism assessment has been like ‘living in limbo’ with ‘no light at the end of the tunnel’. According to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request submitted by the LDRS, the average wait time from an ADHD and autism assessment referral to the first appointment was 530 days – almost a-year-and-a-half – in 2024. This has risen each year from an average wait time of 287 days in 2022.
