Beth, what inspired you to write this book now? My first book, An Eye for Beauty, came out in 2018, so really we had close to a decade of new work by the time we went to press with Embracing Beauty. Charles Miers, my publisher from Rizzoli, came for a visit and asked me to do a second book shortly after the pandemic. I was so flattered—how could I say no? What is your design philosophy? In all of our projects my primary objective is that of creating sanctuary.

Today, grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran released his latest video for his single “Old Phone” featuring Ipswich, Massachusetts. To film the video, Sheeran created a pop-up English–inspired pub called The Old Phone Pub in the town at the end of March. Sheeran began the secretive project by launching theoldphonepub.com, where he announced that he was working on “something exciting” and asked fans to text memorable messages and images to a number found on the site.

I’ve read countless articles and watched many documentaries over the years about the fateful maiden voyage—I even met underwater archaeologist Robert Ballard, noted for finding the Titanic wreckage, at the National Geographic offices in Washington, D.C..

Boston Ballet presents Winter Experience, a program full of dancing in its purest form featuring George Balanchine’s masterpieces Symphony in Three Movements and Mozartiana, Leonid Yakobson’s rarely-performed Vestris, and Claudia Schreier’s innovative Slipstream. The Boston Ballet Orchestra will perform the scores for all four ballets. Winter Experience runs through March 30 at the Citizens Opera House.
