The future looks an awful lot like the past in Ho Tzu Nyen’s commission for the 110-metre facade of the M+ museum (22 March-29 June). Night Charades, which uses cutting-edge technology to reimagine famous scenes from the Golden Age of Hong Kong cinema from the 1980s and 1990s, is filled with references to works by celebrated filmmakers such as John Woo, Wong Kar-wai and Tsui Hark.

An official portrait of Donald Trump has been removed from the Colorado Capitol building following social media complaints from the president claiming his likeness had been “purposefully distorted”. The General Assembly’s bipartisan executive committee signed a directive empowering staff to take the painting down on the evening of 24 March, according to the Denver Post . The portrait, completed by the Colorado Springs-based artist Sarah Boardman in 2019, was commissioned during Trump’s first term.

US President Donald Trump's administration is making deep cuts at the National Park Service (NPS), and after firing around 1,000 of its employees last month the White House is now moving to shutter 34 NPS offices across the country by cancelling their leases. Those facilities support visitor centres, law enforcement units, operations staff, museums and climate-controlled artefact storage for national parks from Alaska to Texas and Florida.

The Fine Art Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) and the city's Asian Art Museum could see layoffs and reduced public hours as a result of a major cut in the city’s budget. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Aidin Vaziri and Tony Bravo reported last week that FAMSF—which oversees the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor museum—has proposed eliminating 23 of its 99 city-funded positions and shuttering the two museums’ doors on Tuesdays.

Florida’s Norton Museum of Art has launched a new partnership with Chanel, which will sponsor three of the West Palm Beach museum’s resident artists this year. The luxury fashion brand will also sponsor a party for the painter Shara Hughes, who completed her residency at the Norton earlier this month, as well as an exhibition of her paintings, ceramics and works on paper at the museum, opening in November.
