Crews with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service are fighting a wildfire in Ocean County. Officials say that the fire is near Pine Park and the Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood. As of Monday evening, the fire is impacting 33 acres of land and is 20% contained. Officials say that no buildings are in danger because of this fire. They previously stated that six buildings were threatened. No evacuation orders have been given. …The fire comes as New Jersey experiences a record-breaking dry spell.

At least one person was killed in a police chase that ended in East Orange involving a stolen vehicle, a source tells News 12 New Jersey. Park Avenue between Washington Street and Glenwood Avenue was temporarily closed for several hours on Tuesday. Law enforcement officials have not released many details about the investigation. But a nearby school was put into lockdown for a time and people in the community are left wondering what happened.

A Bergen County school is in mourning after their beloved principal was killed in a crash over the Fourth of July holiday while visiting family in South Africa. Greico Elementary is gathering to honor the life of Dr. Daniela Small Bailey. She was the principal for a decade and she and her son both lost their lives while on vacation. The two were involved in a head-on crash with a police squad car on July 4 while in South Africa.

The Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show is coming back to the Hudson River after more than a decade. Proposed changes could be coming to the city of Passaic’s oldest housing project. Alfred Speer Village sits at one of the entry points to the city right on State Street. City officials say these over-70-year-old buildings are long past the point of patch jobs and minor fixes. They’re proposing a redevelopment of the area that would require knocking down old buildings and putting up new ones. Christopher Ribot has been a tenant since 1979.
