In January, I initiated a short debate in the House of Lords on the industrial disease silicosis, after Australia had banned new installations of engineered stone worktops, following an outbreak of the disease among its stone masons, that saw one in four affected. These were young men (mostly), going about their work, doing their jobs, who had suffered severe, potentially mortal, injury as a result.
